1. What was the advice given to Nick by his father? How, do you suppose, this makes him a good person to tell this story? The advice is “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” This makes Nick a good person to tell the story because it means he doesn’t judge or undermine anyone based off their money or past.
  2. How is West Egg different from East Egg? Which do you think you would rather live in and why? In the West Egg, the people there had to make their own money and build their careers for themselves, where as the East egg is all old money. This means that the people there inherited what they have. I would rather live in West Egg because I believe you should work for what you have, making it fair for everybody. Also, it is where the people are changing from the past, meaning East Egg is going towards the future, progressing themselves with new ideas.
  3. If you were going to pick one colour to connect with Daisy Buchanan, what colour would it be? Explain your reasoning. The colour would be white. This is because white is commonly known to represent peace and innocence but really, especailly for Daisy, it represents nothingness as if there’s something missing.
  4. We find out that Tom has “some woman in New York.” What unflattering feature of Jordan Baker’s personality is revealed in this scene? In this scene, Jordan is very nosey, trying to listen in on the conversation. She was shocked that Nick didn’t know about which could also suggest that she presumes that everyone knows people’s business like she does, which means she doesn’t see that being a bad thing.
