Narrator intro

Fitzgerald paints the picture of Nick to be a non-judgmental narrator. He seems as though he doesn’t care whether people are good or bad, he accepts them for who they are. Nick was influenced by his father who told him “whenever you feel like criticising any one, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages you’ve had.” Nick believes that there is true meaning to that and that it shouldn’t be mistaken for anything less. Since Nick was a boy, he has thought that he wasn’t allowed to share his thoughts, he must keep them to himself because he might not their story so might not have the correct judgement.

In his introduction a langauge feature present is metaphor’s, “my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning turning in my mind ever since.” This metaphor implys that Nick has never stopped thinking about that advice his father gave him. Emotive lanuage is another one. This is used to describe how Nick is feeling towards his father and himself.
